Landscape Photography and a Solar Eclipse

Wednesday, 5 August 2026 - Drove deep into Iceland’s Highlands, beginning with a stop at the beautiful Kvernufoss waterfall. After a long drive through the rugged landscape, we reached Háifoss, where the dramatic 400-foot waterfall and its companion Granni became our sunset destination.

This would be a long day as we headed into the Iceland Highlands.

This is Kvernufoss, a scenic 90-foot waterfall on our way to the Highlands.

The best pictures would be from behind the waterfall, but the day is a flat gray day so no definition in the sky.

Kvernufoss is situated above a deeply recessed black basalt shelf in the Kvernugil canyon along the course of the Kvernuhólsá river, which originates from the meltwater of the Eyjafjallajökull glacier.

After an all-day trip we arrive in the Highlands.

In the afternoon, as we travel to our sunset destination, a group drives the small Icelandic horses toward a barn. We all tumbled out to try and catch the small horses running by.

Back to the hotel for a late night. This night would be short as we would leave at 0400 hrs for sunrise at another waterfall.
