In April Virginia Ann and Cal traveled to Turkey for a little over two weeks exploring Istanbul and then traveling to the west coast driving south along the coast visiting ancient sites like Troy and Emphasis. After reaching Bodrum we flew to Cappadocia to see the cities and churches carved out of rock. It was a very successful trip - we enjoyed Turkey.
We spent the summer in Highlands. On the 4th of July Cal photographed the fireworks - some pictures "normal" but like previous years several trying a new technique to turn the fireworks into art. You can judge for yourself how he did -> Fireworks.
In July Cal attended a unique workshop to photograph waterfalls in North Carolina at night. It was fun and challenging. Cal took many pictures (40 per finished photograph) while the pro (Kevin Adams) lit the waterfall with a flashlight a small part at a time. Then it took several hours to put the picture together.
On a morning walk Riley spotted a deer in a meadow near the road. There was a stare-off, and finally Riley barked, and the deer ran into the forest. Entertaining to watch.
In August Cal joined eight other photographers for a workshop in Iceland. We spent 11 days photographing the landscapes of the volcanic island. The trip ended on the day of the 2026 Full Solar Eclipse - which turned out to be a rainy day in Iceland, so no eclipse pictures.
