Landscape Photography and a Solar Eclipse

Tuesday, 11 August 2026 - We traveled to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula to scout our location for tomorrow’s eclipse. We chose a spot overlooking the Lóndrangars, then continued around Snæfellsjökull before photographing the iconic Kirkjufellsfoss at sunset. Even at midnight, the lingering light over the mountains and still lakes kept us shooting.

Today we would head over to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula to scout positions for photographing the Eclipse.

As we drove, there were farms along the road. The flatter land near the rivers was covered with crops.

Waterfalls dropped out of the cliffs all along our trip.

This is where we decided to shoot the eclipse. It would pass over the Lóndrangars, which are two basalt rock outcrops, ancient craters that rise off the coast.

We are excited; however, the forecast is not looking good.

We continued around Snæfellsjökull and at the very tip of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in the town of Hellissandur was a huge Eclipse festival. There were hundreds of these tents that were costly to rent.

For sunset we visited Kirkjufellsfoss for several iconic photographs.

The sun was just touching the horizon as we set up.

We stopped on the highway at a lake high in the pass over the mountains while the sun continued to paint the sky. It is almost midnight!!!
