Today was free time in the morning with a trip via four-wheel
drive in the afternoon.
Morning sun crossing the High Atlas.
We started our trip at a salt harvesting operation near Ouirgane. The water 60 feet below the ground is very
salty.
The salty water is pumped up and placed in pools to dry.
The salt crystals collecting in the evaporating water.
Virginia Ann holds the end product - salt which will be sold at market for cows.
Climbing up the mountains we have a great view back into a valley with several towns.
The little village of Ardamene sits on the side of the N'fis River. The river was damned and no water comes by
the village anymore. You can see their fields in the river bottom, so they must be pumping from wells.
The town of Aouzar blends right into the rocks.
We stopped at an olive oil farm in the town of Aghbalou.
They were making paste out of the olives by
grinding them in a big roller machine. The paste is placed on the tower and a cover put over the paste. This
happens over and over until there is a tower then it is rolled over to a hydraulic press.
At the press oil flows from the olive paste.
An abandoned house in the olive grove.
We then climbed the Kik Plateau to Aguergour to watch the sunset at a cafe overlooking the valley.
We were invited into the cafe owner's home - this is the old kitchen - our tea came from the new kitchen.
Lighting fixture.
Our host prepares mint tea for us to enjoy while we watch the sunset.
You can see the dramatic way to
pour - as Virginia Ann did several days ago.
Virginia Ann and Cal enjoying mint tea at the cafe - we were the only people on the terrace.
Sheep heading into their night lodging.
Virginia Ann and Cal enjoying the setting sunlight.
Olive trees on the hillside.
Sunset in Morocco.
A heard of sheep headed home at the end of the day.
Shortly after we began the drive back to the hotel we stopped to catch the last light on Jbel Toubkal.
