We arrived early afternoon in Casablanca and met our guide - Mustapha Ouichouani and driver Adil Abboud. It
had been a long flight. We settled into a van for the 3-hour drive to Rebat. Mustapha briefed us on the trip
and expectations for the next three weeks.
Virginia Ann and Cal on the plane headed for
Morocco!!!!
Once in Rebat we had about two hours of daylight left, so we decided to leave the Riad and wander about. Rebat is
a modern city comprising the political center of the country.
Doors would be photographed many times
on this trip
While exploring alleyways we happened to find this courtyard looking back at the street. All sorts of traffic
passed by. We happened to get this bike nicely in the center.
Loved the idea of pots along the walls - must be hard to water - especially since the pots were higher than six
feet off the ground.
Our first cat picture - not the last as the felines are all over the country. Many stray cats.
Public fountains were very common - beautiful tile designs.
The main north/south road in the Medina at dusk.
The Medina in Rabat is straightforward to walk around - the lanes are wide and in a grid. Rebat is a great introduction
to Morocco as it is not as intimidating as the cities of Fez or Marrakesh.
A beautiful Moroccan lamp outside a mosque.
Looking in a mosque in the Medina - we, as non-Muslims, could not visit any of the mosques except for the grand
mosque in Casablanca at the end of our trip which is open to the public between scheduled prayer times.
Again pots high on the wall - this street has a pretty set of potted plants as well.
The pattern of a lamp in our hotel.
Pretty doorway
Looking inside another mosque - beautiful carpet in the entrance.
Back to the hotel for an
introduction to the local beer - Casablanca - and a nice dinner on the rooftop restaurant.
