Rising early in our pup tent we packed up and walked to a lodge for breakfast. It was much colder than
when we went to bed. As we finished breakfast, fog or clouds began obscuring the far end of the lake.
We rushed back to the bikes and began preparations to leave. Then the "fog" hit us - it was snow!!!
We rode off the mountains in snow for a few miles - it was cold.
We used interstates as often as possible to help speed us along. From Boise, we headed
northwest to Seattle and stopped for the day near Seattle.
On the road in the great Northwest.
As we entered Oregon from Washington we could not stop for our motorcycle picture as the sign was in the
middle of the Columbia River on the interstate. We decided we would turn around at the California boarder
and take the Oregon picture. As we finished the California shot, we remounted, and John remembered we
were turning around Cal did not and ran into John knocking his bike over.
We then dusted ourselves off and snapped this picture.
After our crash we only traveled a few miles to a campground and hunkered down for the night.
The next day we drove to Crescent City, on the coast of California, where a bike shop helped with some minor
damage repair. We then drove into San Francisco.
That night we stayed with a cadet from Cal's company.
The next day we drove to Los Angeles and spent some time on Highway 101, which is very windy along
the coast, and the speed limit was a little too low for us - we were stopped by the police and mailed in
the fine.
We spent the night at classmate John Campbell's home.
Then a short trip to San Diego where we visited with Cal's Grandparents in the city of
La Jolla.
