The day after graduating from West Point Cal and John gathered with their families at a diner for breakfast prior to the great motorcycle ride.
The motorcycles were packed with camping gear and motorcycle supplies.
Cal is on the left and John on the right. Cal is riding a Honda CB750F Super Sport and John a Yamaha XS750 with a shaft drive. Strong motorcycles at the time - good enough for the trip.
Cal's mom is looking much happier than she remembered.
After these pictures, Cal's mom asked him to call every night. Much prior to cell phones this would be impossible while camping, so we promised to call when possible but not every day.
Out of New York and into Pennsylvania. We would stop near Pittsburgh and stay with a classmate, Mark Sims on our first night.
