After graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point, Cal and a roommate, John
Lee rode motorcycles across the USA. The route took us from West Point, NY to Seattle, WA, to San Diego, CA
to
Columbus, GA. The total trip would be about 7,500 miles and take us about three weeks. We would try to
ride under 7 hours a day - some would be shorter but most were in the 6.5-7.5 hour range.
Due to limited time we took the interstates where possiable and limited our sightseeing to views
from the saddle. There was an oil shortage due to the Iranian revolution but our tiny gas tanks
allowed us to get gas without much trouble.
A grand adventure before entering into the US Army as brand new lieutenants.
