Thursday 23 February 2023 -
We drove north until we were at the top of Thailand in the Golden Triangle where Thailand, Laos, and Burma
(Myanmar) all meet.
A little cloudy the sun is behind a stupa on the Mekong River.
A huge Buddha in a ship on the Thailand Mekong River shore.
A loading dock in Laos offloading ships from as far as China. As a Chinese business has created a city with
casinos on the Laos shore it is probable that they are from China.
We are technically in Myanmar/Burma of the Mekong River taking a picture of an island in Laos.
The giant Buddha on the ship sitting on the shore in Thailand.
Cal on the Mekong River cruise.
The Chinese casino in Laos.
Fisherman on the Thailand side of the Mekong - a stark comparison to the building on the Laos side.
Ferry carrying a cement mixer across the MeKong River.
Elephants in the Golden Triangle Buddha complex.
Wee little elephant on a post.
Virginia Ann patting the belly of the elephant at the temple - it is supposed to be good luck to pat his belly.
Many Naga heads.
A three-headed elephant - or Airavata in Hindu mythology.
Three countries in one view - Burma to the far left, Laos to the right and the picture is being taken on
Thailand.
The muddy water from the Ruak River (the boarder of Thailand/Burma) is mixing with the
Mekong.
We drove to a government housing area for hill tribes. These tribes used to be in Burma and have been allowed to
relocate in northern Thailand.
It is a bit odd - like a zoo - sort of unconformable. However, they
were farmers and now only make money by fees to the village and selling woven wares.
This woman and
several others performed for the tourists.
Young girl at a lap weaving device.
The women of the Karen tribe use golden rings added one at a time each year to elongate their neck. They believe
a woman is more attractive the longer the neck.
Young lady weaving.
Example of the scarfs being made in each home.
A group of women having a laugh.
This woman posed for Cal - they certainly did not mind the tourists, but it still seemed odd to be walking
through their village.
