My last day in Alaska. Again I spent the morning deleting pictures, anxious
to get to the better pictures. Today I had no real plans, so I decided
to head north to a town called Glacier View.
The north side of the Chugach mountains along the route. I was stopping at
every turnout for a picture.
The mountains are beautiful.
Giant peaks covered in snow - a glacier can be seen flowing from the ice
field.
Lots of snow in the mountains.
Interesting mountain with two small peaks at the top.
A high glacier in the tall mountains.
Matanuska Glacier flows all the way to the vally floor. It is a public
land but only accessible through private property.
Matanuska Glacier is a massive glacier.
Matanuska Glacier at its end. It is a glacier that is shrinking
but not as quickly as others.
The mountains feeding the ice of Matanuska Glacier
An interesting mountainside with many colors of earth.
Lion Rock was a sentinel for the indigenous people moving along the rivers
to trading posts near Anchorage.
A last picture of the Chugach mountains before heading back to Anchorage.
Late in the afternoon I headed to the airport to head back to North Carolina.
