Thursday, 21 October 2010 - Traveled to Dry Falls, then hiked and took pictures along the Cullasaja River, wandered around Cliffside Lake, and ended the day at the Whiteside Overlook for the Bear Shadow.
We started the day by driving a short way to Dry Falls.
Dry Falls is a very frequented waterfall due to its beauty, ease of access, and the fact that you can walk
under the falls and stay dry - hence the name.
The path way is visible behind the falls.
When we visited there was not a lot of water in the Cullasaja River, so the falls were delicate.
The bottom of Dry Falls. This picture took a little scampering to get level with the rocks
below the falls.
The yellow tree makes for good color. This vantage is from higher on the bank.
We then traveled down the Cullasaja River looking for good spots to get out an explore.
There we several small cascades surrounded by the fall colors.
The wateer reflected the colors from the trees.
Beautiful cascades with the colorful reflections.
Lots of scampering and tripods in the water as we angles for good pictures of the waterfalls.
Beautiful reflections when close to the water.
A leaf heading downstream.
We were alo on the lookout for reflecting pools to frame the color of the trees.
A pretty leaf on the Cullasaja River.
A new technique for Cal - a star burst effect created by stopping down the aperture to very small
and shooting
into the sun.
We stopped to walk around Cliffside Lake looking for compositions.
The reflections in the water look like a painting.
At the end of the day we headed up to Whiteside Mountain Overlook to snap a picture of the 'Bear'
shadow on the forest below.
