Goðafoss in Akureyri, Iceland

A very popular waterfall, Goðafoss translates to "Waterfall of the Gods". Around the year 1000 AD, a local leader threw his pagan statues of Norse gods into the waterfall to mark Christianity becoming the official religion of Iceland. Fed by the glacial river Skjálfandafljót, Goðafoss drops from a height of 39 feet.
