Before the trip to Havasu Canyon I had a day to take pictures in the Desert Botanical Gardens.
There were many cacti blooming, so it was a very productive visit.
This was a huge flower compared to the cactus - and the blossom only lasts a day.
Another flower - this time on a taller cactus. The colors are so brilliant.
This ia an agave which sends up a large stalk holding the blossom high overhead.
Little red blossoms on a Prickly Pear cactus.
Another view of the Prickly Pear cactus blossom.
The yellow flowers of the Palo Verde tree against the blue skies of Arizona.
Delicate little pink flower almost as big as the cactus itself.
A yellow flower on a Prickly Pear cactus - there are many types of Prickly Pear.
The afternoon and evening were spent getting ready for the Havasu Canyon adventure. We were
helicoptered into the canyon while our bags traveled by pack horses. The total weight
of my bag could only be 20 lbs, which is not a lot for camping over 4 nights in the canyon. My
camera bag was twice as heavy.
