An early start with a sunrise visit to Junction Overlook. The junction is the confluence
of the Canyon del Muerto and Canyon de Chelly.
This huge rock is called Dog Rock.
The sun peeking through a Juniper tree.
Junction Ruin in the shade of the cliffs.
This rock might have a name - I think it looks like a dog (or coyote in the desert).
The creek bed in the early morning sun.
Rock on the canyon wall moving every which way.
Junction Ruins just as the sun chases the shadow away.
After breakfast, we were off to a hogan to photograph Andrew Henry who
is a Navajo silversmith. The light from the smoke hole in the roof of
the hogan lit the silversmith and his tools.
Outside the hogan we were able to photograph Andrew's mother-in-law, Rita, in all her
turquoise finery.
Rita is over 90 years old and still was a good model. Very patient for all the
photographers.
We then moved to a park for a model session with Shyla.
Her mother, a silversmith,
made the
turquoise squash blossom necklace.
Shyla was joined by a hors called Rain.
The team then set up lights. We were able to use flash for several shots.
After the lights we were able to take a few more pictures of Shyla in the natural
light.
