Monday, May 30, 2022 - My last day in the field - I walked around the forest before breakfast while the sun came up.

A "forest" of Madagascar Ocotillo - the plantation has a very active nursery and is replanting all the various plants in the Spiny Forest - here are rows of the ocotillo.

Unusual trees in a section of the plantation. Not the iconic baobab but a relative.

Branches against the sky.

The unusual twists and turns of the trees.

Sunlight touching the tops of the trees.

An interesting technique of cutting the agave flower stalk which results in a new plant popping up at the cut.

Malagasy Kestrel watching the forest floor.

A Ring-Tailed lemur in a bush eating the flowers/fruit.

Deciding his next move - an intense Ring-Tailed.

A kite high in the trees. Not sure which kite it is - maybe a Red kite.

A Ring-Tailed lemur enjoying the warming rays of the morning sun.

The big mission for the morning - find a family of Verreaux's Sifaka lemur moving toward a road and capture the dancing lemurs.

This one is on the last tree before the road - from here he will hop down and dance his way across the road.

Flying high at the top of a hop
madagascar2022
Dancing lemur - so cute it makes one laugh.
madagascar2022
Lords a leaping - you can see the dirt kicked up in the hop.
madagascar2022
Gracefully moving along
madagascar2022
So interesting that they only move sideways.
madagascar2022
Mandrare River flowing through the Sisal plantation and providing water for the nearby village of Amboasary Sud.
madagascar2022
Laundry at the river's edge - the word Maki on the blanket is Malagasy for lemur.

Memorials to the dead - the height of the monument indicates the age at death.
The trip back to Taolagnaro was painful - this is National Road 13 - so an interstate...

We would drive an average of 10 mph and arrive in time for dinner. The next day began the trip home - a 2-hour flight to Tana, then some time there and a late night flight to Paris (13.5 hours), then Detroit (8.5 hours), and finally home (4 hours) to Virginia Ann and Riley!!!!
