Baileys
Baileys has gone to chase rabbits in heaven. He was a great companion over the 17 years he was with us.

Below are several of our favorite photos of Mr Beagle. To see all the photos of Baileys in the Scrapbook use this link -->>> Baileys in the Scrapbook

baileys
This is Baileys as a pup. Virginia Ann was shooting a set of photos for a promotion and little Baileys was in the room. She picked him up and at the moment of the picture he gave her a kiss.

Baileys went for several weeks without a name - we just couldn't come up with an appropriate name for the little puppy. We were getting a bit desperate calling out any object or noun which came to mind. Cal was reading a magazine and there was an ad for Baileys Irish Cream - after calling out Baileys it was decided that that was going to be his name.

Virginia Ann's dad (Lucius) bought Baileys a remote controlled car for Christmas. He loved chasing it around their driveway. Several times he bit the car tires and got a little surprise as the car would flip in his mouth.

Not sure if Baileys or Lucius had more fun that day. He spent most the day entertaining Baileys up and down the driveway.
baileys
Baileys 3rd Grade photo - ok not really. But a professional shot and a beautiful beagle. He is around 2 when this photo was taken.
baileys
One of our favorite shots - Baileys alert and looking very intent.

Such a handsome hound.

Baileys enjoys a nap on a warm pillow. A beagle can sleep anywhere and Baileys certainly could. This is up in the North Carolina mountains after a long hike.
baileys
A calendar shot - although he never made it into one. Here he is high in the North Carolina mountains on a hike to the top of Whiteside Mountain.

Baileys loved our hikes in the mountains.
baileys
We had hiked to Whitewater River at the bottom of Witewater Falls. Baileys was walking in the river following Cal as he took photos of the falls. Cal had climbed up on a bolder and Baileys could not figure out how to follow so he just stood in the cold water and looked up at Cal.
baileys
We tried many times to catch Baileys jumping over a log to get the ears flying. Here he is launching over a log and his ears curled wonderfully.

His ears were so soft - like rabbit ears.

Those ears did provide us some challenges they would become infected and we would need to treat by squirting liquid into those ears - which the beagle did not appreciate.
baileys
Always vigilant Baileys watches strangers out the front window. Baileys was a great watch dog - barking at any stranger outside. He loved watching for potential danger. Very protective of Virginia Ann.

Baileys would go crazy if he saw the mailman, UPS guy, and Fedex guy. If he was in the car he became very excited about motorcycles.
baileys
The beagle howl - he was hard to catch in a full on howl. This was one time he was howling and Cal had his camera.

When one of us was at home and the other arrived, Baileys would through his head back and howl. He would do it for quite a while and of course we would fawn over him. Sweet Pea ever jealous of her big brother began to howl as well - although a terrier howl is sort of a screech.
baileys
Drinking from a mountain stream on a hike in the mountains. He really loved to hike - he could go as far as we could - probably farther. He seemed to enjoy the mountain walks always ready to go outside - except in the rain and thunder.

He only escaped from us a few times - but once was during a thunderstorm. He was gone for hours. Cal was in Arizona and almost flew back to help search. But he showed up back at the house - limping and very bedraggled. Ever since then he was very frightened of thunder.
baileys
And after a hard hike - sleep. He loved to nap.
baileys
Baileys loved to hang his head out of the car window. He enjoyed riding in the car and was always energetic when we would go on a trip. The winding mountain roads in North Carolina were his favorites but he had fun on all rides.
baileys
Wearing his Christmas collar Baileys puts up with yet another photo session.

Not one for clothes we never dressed him - but he and his sister would wear Christmas collars and for St Patricks day - shamrock handkerchiefs. Mary - Cal's sister made Baileys and Sweet Pea leather jackets a photo of them in their jackets is in the Scrapbook.
baileys
Looking back on us as we hike - Baileys is still ahead of us on the next trail.

Such a sweet puppy - we love you Mr Beagle.
