The Burj Al Arab hotel towers over the Mina a'Salam hotel. Virginia Ann loved the Mina a'Salam and Al Qasr
hotels in this complex. We went to the
Souk Madinat Jumeirah market for the shopping. It was a higher end market including a very nice
Iranian Rug shop - which we barely escaped without a purchase.
The Madinat Jumeirah complex was built in the style of the older buildings. The towers are constructed to catch
the wind and provide relief from the summer heat.
The water is allowed to surround the hotels, so a quick way to get around is by boat. There are
several landings and hopping off and on is fun. Since we were not hotel guests we had to
pay for a 30-minute tour of the canals.
Virginia Ann loved the way the water surrounded the hotel rooms.
From the tour boat the Mina a'Salam hotel on the beach. This view is the same as the view from the
hotel pool.

Off to the second biggest mall - the Mall of the Emirates. A bit smaller than the Dubai Mall with only 500
stores. This is the grand atrium and is four-five stories high.
Besides hundreds of stores the Emerits Mall has a winter wonderland - Ski Dubai. Here a child enjoys an inner
tube slide in the snow.
The most unbelievable part of the mall is the ski slope. Here someone snowplows down the slope.
Of course you can take ski lessons - and to ski on one of the trails you only have to answer a few questions.
A remarkable sight - this is from a restaurant that looks right into the ski slope. There are five ski trails in
the
complex - ranging from a beginners slope to the only indoor black trail. You can see
the mall ceiling and lights over the ski slope.
The ski slope raises two or three stories over the four-story mall.
The minarets of a mosque near the Umm Suqeim Beach. Cal was there early to take sunset photos of
Burj Al Arab so was able to capture the day and night views for the mosque.
Surfers in the Umm Suqeim Beach surf. I was surprised at the number of women surfing.
As the sun sets the surfers did not slow down

Jumeirah Hotel - or the "Wave Hotel" in the sunset as it begins to light up.
We went to dinner at the Souk Madinat Jumeirah complex at a great Persian restaurant - the Anar. The food was
great
and we sat on the deck next to the water during a wonderful evening.
The much photographed Burj Al Arab Hotel from the Souk Madinat Jumeirah at night. Cal had to take another
picture.
Cal took a very short walk to a nearby parking lot to photograph two skyscrapers, Al Kazim Towers, modeled
after the Chrysler building in New York. And the end of day two in Dubai.
